It was a memorable Tuesday evening as Indian cricket formally bid an emotional goodbye to former captain and batting stalwart Rahul Dravid. Dravid, who announced retirement from first-class cricket nearly three weeks ago after 16 years in the international arena, delivered a touching speech, interspersed with humour and anecdotes. 'I will miss being part of the dressing room, the banter, the camaraderie but not so much the rap music. It has been a great journey. I have been part of big victories and crushing defeats. But what I have realised is that everything passes if we have the power to endure,' he said at a felicitation ceremony organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. 'It has been a fascinating journey since 1996 [in England], where we were treated like, if I may use the term, second-class citizens. We would get the first tour of the [cold] summer in England, [would be] s! ent to smaller grounds,' he pointed out. 'The respect that the team now has is not only due to the performances of the Indian team, but also due to the work put in by the officials of the BCCI.'
